Andre Jordan Spitzman

He was the founder, creator and promoter of the quinta do lago, Belas Clube de Campo, Vilamoura XXI,among others. In 2014 she was considered one of the 12 most influential personalities in tourism worldwide.

After visiting Quinta do Lago in 1970,then an agricultural domain of low profitability, in an almost virgin state, known as Quinta dos Cabeçados, André Jordan imagined the concept that would guide this development, inspired by the Uruguayan resort of Punta del Este, introducing golf as an attraction factor. A space of 645 hectares was acquired in 1972 by the company Planal SA,founded by the entrepreneur. Construction occurred at the rate at which sales were being made, with the first lots sold on January 6, 1973. In 1974 the two golf courses were already completed and operational, receiving in 1976 their first Portuguese Open. Stagnant after the Carnation Revolution, due to the political and economic difficulties arising from it, the project was resumed in 1983. The assets of the development, including two golf courses, [2] were valued in 2006 at €4 billion.

In 2006 he published the book “O Rio que Passou na Minha Vida”, about his experience in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s,when he lived a season with his father at copacabana palace.

In 2007, as part of the commemorations of the 60th anniversary of the São Paulo Museum of Art, was placed there a panel with his name and that of his father Henryk Spitzman Jordan, as donors of works of art to the museum, including works of Cézanne, Degas and Mr. Van Gogh.

In 2014 he was awarded the World Travel Leader Awards for his contribution to the development of tourism in the Algarve, highlighting him among the twelve most influential people in tourism worldwide. The distinction was announced in London, during the 35th edition of the World Travel Market, the largest and most participated event of the tourism industry, which since 1980 is dedicated to celebrating the greatest achievements of the sector and designing its paths and future successes, bringing together over fifty thousand professionals from the travel and tourism industry and other partners in the sector for four days. Simon Press, senior director of the event, stressed André Jordan’s key role in helping develop and transform the Algarve “into the well-known and beautiful holiday destination that is currently“.

André Jordan was also awarded as Grand Officer of the Order of Rio Branco and with the Tamandaré Merit Medalin Brazil.

André Jordan is a Doctor of Honoris Causa from the Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa (ISCTE), Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, and the University of algarve.
